Gallery

This near derelict building was originally a laundry for a large Estate house in Perthshire, which was destroyed by fire. The laundry then slowly fell to disrepair. Visual artist Su Grierson recognised the building’s potential and commissioned Brennan & Wilson Architects to transform the building into a studio and gallery.

The laundry is a listed building, so great care was taken with the conversion. Matching stone was sourced for repairs, and mortar analysis carried out to establish the lime mix required. Woodwork and windows were painted to what were common estate colours at the time of its construction. A large existing opening was fully glazed to bring in light to the ground floor workshop. Upstairs, the building was converted into a modern, open gallery space with specialist display lighting.

All together, the conversion transforms what was a near derelict store into a bright, spacious studio and gallery for the display of Su’s art.
